Men’s Conference: Building God’s Strong Men

In celebration of its 15th Anniversary, Katuwang Resource Center Inc. held its first “Men’s Conference” with theme “Building God’s Strong Men” last June 25, 2016, Saturday at the Equipping Hall, Ikthus Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

Engr. Narciso San Miguel, Vice-Chairperson and founding member of KRCI took the lead and gave the welcome remarks.

It was then followed by a message from Pastor Paquito Padilla about the differences of God’s design for women and men. He gave specific examples and even funny scenarios of the way the genders differ. According to him, men and women were created different but they are equal.

The second speaker, Mr. Rafael Catalan, president of KRCI focuses on the roles men play. He emphasized the weight and the importance of the responsibilities men have on their shoulders.

Afterwards, Pastor Joshua Jimena of Northside Baptist Church shared about “God’s Challenge For Men”. He talked about his family and how he realized that what he does and how he behaves can deeply affect his children– he concluded that “Your(Fathers) character today can influence your children tomorrow”.

A challenge was then thrown by Dr. Adolfo Gilpo, BOT Secretary, to the attendees. Those who are willing to take the challenge of becoming a better husband, son, and providers were asked to surrender to Christ’s leadership. And as a symbol for accepting this particular challenge, the men were asked to kneel.

The afternoon session is also filled with different inspiring stories. A presentation done by “Ivan the Clown” not only made the audience laugh but also inspired them. Through forming balloons into different shapes, he shared how, by God’s grace, he managed to support his children and let them graduate from college. For him, this is a ministry, a ministry where he can be in front, and share Christ.

Following that talk, is a presentation of the future plans and programs of KRCI that would focus on the male members. This is an orientation also regarding the “Men At Work” Project.

The conference was then capped off by two interesting skills presentation. Mr. Samuelfredo Villena, a retired faculty, of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College focused on woodworks and carpentry taught the attendees some basics about the craft. His finished product while presenting? A cross.
Lito M. Sison, an expert in making products out of bamboo also showed the men in that conference a way to make a handicraft using materials from bamboo. When he asked if they(the audience) want to see how, the pictures would tell you how eager they were to learn.
Operations Manager Miss Ronalyn Sotana said that the aim of this activity is to equip the men through awareness and skills training as performance report of the organization shows that only 15% of the total members of KRCI is composed of men. This is open to male member partners and husbands and sons of female members of KRCI, and will be continued in the coming years.
